On the heels of the Goa Contact Festival, Dance Dialogues is happy to have Irene Sposetti and Johan Nilsson of Being Motion facilitating a Contact Improvisation (CI) class and jam session in Bombay, on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Irene and Johan are both CI performers and teachers with a history in CI and other organic movement and living practices. You can learn more about their work at www.beingmotion.org.
The CI class is directed at dancers with or without experience in contact improvisation. The beginner will have the chance to get the basic tools to relate in contact to another body and the more experienced will have the chance to deepen their practice by exploring subtle aspects of the technique. We will focus our attention on the ability to understand how the weight of the body travels in space, how to offer body surfaces for support in contact to read each other’s movements in and out of contact, to read each other’s bodies, rhythms and dynamics to enable a clear dialogue in contact and improvised dance. We will introduce basic scores, exploring the principles of dancing in a CI jam. After the class, we invite everyone to a jam session of dance and improvisation.
We will facilitate an introduction with guided warm-up and open the space to a journey in improvisation. Meet yourself and others in movement, playfulness, curiosity and creativity. In movement, explore and create your own dance, in and out of contact, finding the connection to the group, to the music and to the space. We look forward to your presence and contribution!
You may choose to attend just the jam session or class + jam. If you are a CI beginner, it is essential that you attend the class too!
